On 14th May, The Preliminary round of the 19th “Chinese bridge” Chinese proficiency Competition for foreign college students, Rwanda zone semi-final was held, seven contestants have qualified for the final.
This semi-final Competition was hosted by Chinese Embassy to Rwanda and undertaken by Confucius Institute at University of Rwanda, college of Education, aimed at enhancing the friendship between Rwanda and China, and the understanding of Rwandan college students of Chinese language and culture.
The competition this year was held online due to the coronavirus epidemic. Confucius Institute organized and tutored the contestants by social software and the contestants registered and uploaded their entries on the media platform and the scoring was done online.
Themed “One World, One Family”, participants showed their understanding of Mandarin and Chinese culture across speech and cultural performance like Chinese Kungfu, Chinese songs and poetry recitation.
Members of the jury are from different fields, such as the University of Rwanda, Rwanda Kungfu federation, Chinese enterprises, overseas Chinese in Rwanda, and news medias, making the competition scoring fair and justice. Until now more than ten thousand audiences watched the entry videos online and the most popularity prize will be awarded according to the click through rate.
The final competition will be conducted in the form of online knowledge competition on 16th May. The winners can get the First prize, second prize, excellent prize and individual awards.
