Recruitment of Local Teacher to Teach Chinese in Confucius Institute at University of Rwanda College of Education

Confucius Institute at University of Rwanda College of Education (formerly Confucius Institute at the Kigali Institute of Education, hereinafter referred to as CIUR-CE) has been established for more than 10 years, with more than 5,000 registered students. To improve the quality of Chinese teaching and deepen exchanges and cooperation between China and Rwanda, CIUR-CE is to recruit 3 to 5 Rwandan teachers.

I. Post Obligation

1. The applicant should be qualified for Chinese teaching post in CIUR-CE;

2. The applicant should possess the competence in disseminating Chinese culture and doing academic research;

3. The applicant should undertake no less than 12 teaching hours per-week and 40 hours of the total working time per-week.

II. Application Eligibility  

1. The applicant should possess the affection for the post of teaching Chinese at CIUR-CE, and abide by the laws of Rwanda and the regulations of Confucius Institute.

2. The applicant should score at least 180 points with HSK-5, 60 points in HSKK (Middle Level), and be competent for daily Chinese teaching;

3. The applicant should possess a comprehensive quality for cross-cultural communication and flexible competence in organizing Chinese cultural activities, etc.;

4. The applicant with the Qualified teacher certificate of Rwandan has a priority;

5. The applicant with the Second Language Teaching in Chinese/ Foreign Language has a priority.

III. Recruitment Procedure

1. To submit the application material to the CIUR-CE office or mail to tsengkuanguk@qq.com;

2. To take the Pre-tests organized by CIUR-CE (written test and interview);

3. To take the Qualified test organized by the Headquarters of Confucius Institute;

4. Admission from Confucius Institute Headquarters based on the result of the tests above;

5. To Sign an employment agreement with Confucius Institute.

IV. Registration Document 

1. Application Form for local Teacher to Teach Chinese in CIUR-CE;

2. Photocopies of HSK and HSKK certificate;

3. Photocopy of Certificate of Degree (the certificate obtained in other countries except China and Rwanda must be notarized);

4. A recommendation letter by a doctor or an associate professor (included).

V. Wage Standard

1. According to the local wage standard (Rwanda) for the assistant (in university or college), the wage standard is consulted between Confucius Institute and the employee, and reported to the Headquarters of Confucius Institute for approval. 

2. The CIUR-CE and the Headquarters of Confucius Institute can provide the local Chinese-language teachers with necessary training, essential teaching materials and teaching auxiliaries according to the actual demands.

VI. Management

1. In principle, the employment agreement is an annually-signed document between CIUR-CE and the employee;

2. A three-month probation is a must for the first-time employed person. During the probation period 80% of the agreed standard-wage is paid to the employee; after the probation, and provided that the employee is qualified for the post, the full wage is paid in full to the employee;

3. According to the requirements of the Headquarters of Confucius Institute, CIUR-CE should undertake the responsibility and supervision for the local teacher’s daily teaching and activity participation, also offer an annual assessment for the local teacher’s working performance in CIUR-CE. The outstanding person will be afforded one-month basic wage as a reward; while the unqualified person is to be dismissed.

4. Provided that the local Chinese-language teacher unilaterally does end the signed term of service ahead of the due day, he /she must undertake the corresponding liability for breach of contract in accordance with the local labor regulations.
