  About Confucius Institute at Kigali Institute of Education

  As China’s economy and exchanges with the world have seen rapid growth,there has also been a sharp increase in the world’s demands for Chinese learning. Benefiting from the UK,France,Germany and Spain’s experience in promoting their national languages,China began its own exploration through establishing non-profit public institutions which aim to promote Chinese language and culture in foreign countries in 2004:    These were given the name of the Confucius Institute.

 

  In 2011,the Confucius Institutes around the world made remarkable achievements,with steady development and positive trends for future growths. By the end of August,2011,353 Confucius Institutes and 473Confucius Classrooms had been established in 104 countries and regions in the world.

 

  Confucius Institutes/Classrooms adopt flexible teaching patterns and adopt to suit local conditions when teaching Chinese language and promoting culture in foreign primary schools, secondary schools,

communities and enterprises.

 

  Initiated by the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban),with the assistance of Chinese Embassy to Rwanda,the agreement on establishing Confucius Institute at Kigali Institute of Education was signed and came into effect on 30 January,2008 after friendly negotiation between Chongqing Normal University (CQNU) and Kigali Institute of Education (KIE). With the guidance and strong support from Hanban and the Confucius Institute headquarters,under the leadership of the Board of directors of CIKIE,with the earnest care and support from KIE,CQNU and Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Rwanda,on June 26,2009,CIKIE was officially unveiled.

 

  CIKIE has 360square meters of special space for teaching and office,including two classrooms,four offices and a library. In the library there are nearly 4,000 Chinese language and culture books,which is open to the public. The teaching facilities and equipments are complete and advanced. KIE also established an Operational Committee whose Chairman is the KIE’s Vice rector Academic to facilitate the work of CIKIE.

  Nowadays, CIKIE has three schools as followed:Kigali Institute of Education,China-Rwanda friendship school at northern &eastern province in Rwanda and all of those schools open the Chinese language,Chinese Kung Fu and Chinese culture classes.

  Missions of CIKIE

  In accordance with the contextual environment,CIKIE’s mission is to develop the following programs:

  1.To develop Chinese language teaching in various ways including the use of muli-media and Internet;

  2.To train local Chinese language teachers;

  3.To hold HSK(Chinese Language Proficiency Test as a foreign language);

  4.To conduct academic activities and contests related to the Chinese language and culture;

  5.To provide information and scholarship of studying in China;

  6.To provide special training programs such as Kung Fu,Chinese cuisine,Martial arts and so on.

 

  Chinese language courses of CIKIE

1.To offer different levels of Chinese courses tailored to the needs of local peoples;

2.To hold short-term, medium-term and long-term Chinese training classes on business ,foreign trade,tourism,culture,pre-studying in China,ect;

3.To offer Chinese language and cultural courses in primary and secondary schools.

 

  Cultural Activities of CIKIE

 To hold various Chinese cultural activities,such as lectures on special topics,Chinese cultural week or month activity, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese film shows, Chinese cooking, Chinese martial art club,Taiji,Chinese music,Summer camp to China,Chinese traditional festivals celebration,Cultural performances,Dragon Boat Festival Celebration; Launching ceremony of Chinese Culture Month & Chinese Salon; Chinese Movie Shows; Chinese Salon; Chinese Culture Month; Chinese language learning materials and culture books exhibition; Qixi festival and so on.

 

  Cooperation University:

  Chongqing Normal University:Chongqing Normal University (hereafter as “CQNU”), founded in 1954, is located in Chongqing, Chonqing Normal University is a full-time comprehensive institution of higher education under the leadership of Chongqing Municipal Government of P. R. China. It was designated as one of the first Chinese Language Educational Centers by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and is currently the only one in western China. CQNU attaches much importance to overseas students’ education and administration in a way of classified teaching and human-based management. CQNU took the lead in Chongqing to set up International College of Chinese Language and Culture, providing better education and administration for Chinese language training students. Welcome international students to study in Chongqing Normal University.
