About the festival

The Rwanda Film Festival, also known as Hillywood, has not only established itself as the country’s most
important cultural event, but also as one of Africa’s most prestigious festivals. For seven days, film lovers,
filmmakers, industry professionals and media will watch the best in new cinema from established masters
and new local and international talents. The Hillywood tradition continues this year with the festival’s tenth
edition.

Our principal objective is to promote and encourage awareness, appreciation and understanding of the art of
cinema in Rwanda. Our mandate is to present the most outstanding films produced in every part of the world.

With the ongoing development of filmmaking in Rwanda, we believe the time is right for such a festival that
serves as a key platform for the promotion of Rwandan-produced cinema and also enables our local professionals
to interact with internationally established filmmakers.

Club Rafiki

The sign for Club Rafiki proclaims that it is a “youth friendly center.” The nickname is certainly fitting–even on
a Monday afternoon, there are swarms of young people playing football and basketball, chatting with friends,
reading in the library, or learning new skills at a row of computers. On a weekend, Club Rafiki is even more
packed. Looking at all these young people, you cannot help but think of each person’s potential. Which of
those boys playing football will become a famous athlete? Will that girl at the computer get a good job thanks
to her skills with technology? How many will become wives and husbands, mothers and fathers? Who will
become a great politician? What successes will they experience and what failures? What will they lose and
what will they gain as they move through life?
